Anxiously awaiting the next big Windows 8 pre-release update or the hallowed Release Candidate build? Well, some bittersweet news this morning from Microsoft’s President of the Windows division, Steven Sinofsky, at a Microsoft event in Japan, by way of the @BuildWindows8 twitter account – the Release Candidate is never again coming. Instead, Microsoft is renaming the Release Candidate build to “Release Preview”, and will launch it sometime during the first week of June.

Not to worry. Microsoft isn’t holding anything back but instead pulling a bit of a naming switcheroo. That said, outside of the obvious bug fixes and performance improvements, any other (new) gems were not announced.
