Well, the time has come for this moment to come to pass. We can now stop coding and submit our application to the BlackBerry App World. We know how your feeling about the stop coding comment but we promise there is always more to code! This is an important step for any developer as it shows the world what you have been working on all this time. We enjoy the submission process as it gives us into how the platform developers have kept the developer in mind. Continue on past the break to read how to submit an application to the BlackBerry App World!

The first thing we want to do is navigate to the BlackBerry developer website. After we are there we need to create a BlackBerry developer account. To do this there is a section on the right hand side of the screen called BlackBerry Developer Zone and this allows you to either log in or register. After we click the register we are taken to a page where we can enter all of our information as seen below.

After the information has been provided there are a few more steps that need to be taken but after you have completed them you will be a registered BlackBerry Developer. After this we need to log into the BlackBerry Developer Zone and register ourselves as a vendor for the BlackBerry App World. To do this we need to click the link “BlackBerry App World Distribution” on the side of the BlackBerry Developer Zone screen.

This will take us to the App World Distribution Page. This page will explain the benefits of using the App World to distribute our applications to the millions of BlackBerry users. We can click “Submit Your App or Theme” and be redirected to the vendor log in page. Here we will need to register to become a BlackBerry vendor. To register to become a vendor we need to complete four steps and agree to the BlackBerry Vendor Terms of Service.

Vendor Agreement:

Step 1 – Personal Information:

Step 2 – Vendor Information:

Step 3 – PayPal Account Hook:

Step 4 – Final Instructions:

After these steps are complete we are left with a message telling us that BlackBerry will contact us for further information. This can usually take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. We received notification from BlackBerry through email detailing the following instructions:

We are writing to inform you that your request for addition to Research In Motion’s vendor list has been received. To complete the process, we require the following documentation:

BlackBerry App World Team

This email requires you to send information back to RIM verifying that you are a business or a individual applying for vendor-ship with BlackBerry . We waited around 14 hours before receiving verification that we had become a vendor in the BlackBerry App World. Please note that it can take 24 – 48 hours before approval can take place. After we were approved we received the following message from the App World Team in our inbox:

We are pleased to inform you that your request to be added to Research In Motion’s vendor list has been approved.

We could then navigate back to the Vendor Login Page and sign in.

After we have signed in we have to agree to the vendor terms of service again. This time we chose the option saying that we may at some time want to sell our applications in the App World, leading us to agree to two more licensing agreements.

After we have accepted the Terms and Conditions for the Vendor agreement we are redirected to the Vendor Portal for the App World. This portal will allow you to check the status of your applications, the number of downloads, submit an application and update existing applications.

Since we want to add a new application to the App World, we are going to need to choose the “Manage Products” option on the top left side of the screen which will redirect us to the page below:

Once we are on the manage products page we can check on the status of our existing App World apps or add a new application to the App World. We want to add a new product so we can go ahead and choose the option “Add Product” button which will take us to a wizard that we will need to complete to submit our application. From here we can view the following gallery that walks us through the

[nggallery id=8]

We can see through the gallery what information is required stepping through all of the application information. When all of this is complete, we will receive an email notification from the BlackBerry App World that contains the following:

This email acknowledges the submission of the product named: ‘Client Contact Information’ and 1 new release(s) for the product.

Another email will be sent as soon as any updates are made in the approval process.

The BlackBerry Team

The BlackBerry App World team will keep you up to date on the progress of your application as it goes through the approval process. After the application has been approved by the App World team you will receive two emails from the BlackBerry App World Team. The first will be as follows:

Dear App World Vendor,

Research In Motion is pleased to inform you that release ‘1.2’ of your product ‘Client Contact Information’ has been approved.

The BlackBerry App World™ Team

and the second email is a little more detailed on what needs to happen next.

Dear App World Vendor,

Research In Motion is pleased to inform you that your product ‘Client Contact Information’ is approved and ready to be provisioned for BlackBerry App World. We encourage you to login to BlackBerry App World and click the ‘Post for sale’ link for the approved product in http://appworld.blackberry.com/isvportal/, to ensure your product is available in the catalog for BlackBerry App World. Please keep in mind it can take up to 24 hours before your app has propagated into our system.

The BlackBerry App World™ Team

If we follow the instructions and navigate to the manage applications screen in the Vendor Portal we will see the following screen:

All we need to do on this screen is press the “Post For Sale” option under the product name and it can take up to 24 hours before everyone will be able to see our application.

This concludes how to submit a BlackBerry Application to the App World. It is as long as the Windows Phone 7 and Android processes with a slightly better edge as screenshots are not required. We hope that you found this useful and now that you are done this tutorial you should be able to successfully submit and have an application approved by the BlackBerry App World Team.
