We have downloaded the update for Foursquare and overall quite enjoy it. We love the landscape look overall but we have found that is coming with its fair share of nuances. For example we decide to check into one of our regulars and we wait for the page telling use that we are the mayor of said place. Well the wait is not the problem but the orientation is not consistent from what we were using. Check out the image above as we screenshotted (If that’s even a word…) what it looks like when we are in landscape on our Nexus 10. Let us know if you have found anything else in the comments below. Until the next update, Happy Hacking!

Well it has been some time since we have used the NetBeans IDE to develop for Android. We recently banged out two new Android applications in the eclipse IDE for a client. We do understand that those of you who enjoy NetBeans, really enjoy it. So we have this new page for any updates concerning the IDE, Android SDK and any other helpful advice we can muster here.Let us know what you think in the comments below. Until the next update, Happy Hacking!

Updates

May 28, 2013
As it turns out the links on the previous post on how to install the Android SDK are obsolete. We have a new link for you to enter into the auto updater and it is shown below:
http://nbandroid.org/release72/updates/updates.xml

Keep in mind that you MUST be running NetBEans 7.2 or newer for this to work.

Let us know if this works or of any more problems you encounter as we can update it for the rest of the crown of developers here!

We just watched the annuncement for the new Xbox One and we must say that we are excited. Not only are we excited about the 8 cores, 500GB HDD space or cloud access that the One uses, but also the development opportunities. We look forward to hearing a lot more at E3 but we thoughroughly enjoyed the application snapping and new Kinect gestures. Like Ginny Caughey says in her tweet below, it will make for an easier development decision on what to include in new upcoming games and applications.

For those that this interests, there will be a new XBOX showing up on the scene around 1:00pm EST. We expect it to be quite fascinating. Looking at it from a developers point of view, we are excited about having a new device/console to develop for. Instead of listening to what others want out of the new console, we are keeping our ears shut until 1 today until we hear it from the horses mouth so to speak. Let others know what you think in the comments below. Make sure to tune in and watch the reveal live.

Previous to this post we took a shot at the Commuter series for the HTC One. Well, we want to take it that one step further and swaddle our One and the & BlackBerry Z10 in the most protective shell we could manage to find. It’s no armor series that’s for sure but we think that the OtterBox Defender series may be up to the challenge. Below we take a look at the Defender case and give you what we see as pros in a developer device case and what we think might need a revamp. Check it out after the break.

The case when we opened it came in a silicone outer shell and a tough inner plastic one. We needed to peel back the silicone layer to access and unlock the hard plastic on both. We found that the plastic that covered both of the screens was slightly raised making the device to plastic have a small gap instead of being completely flush. This lead to a clicking sound when tapping the touch screen. Set aside from this getting the devices into the cases proved no problem and quite easy.

The HTC One case had cutouts in the front plastic for the BoomSound speakers and the Z10′s plastic was just the top. Both of the devices had the power buttons on the top of the devices. When the devices were in the case they are accessed by silicone that goes over the power button. This is the same for the volume rockers on the right hand side. The left hand side of the Z10 holds the HDMI out and power in ports. The left hand side of the One was completely free of buttons which gave OtterBox the opportunity to make the device look slick and sexy in the case. The team that designed this case really excelled in this instance as it does look quite slick.

The bottom of the Z10 had a port for the microphone while the bottom of the One had space for the microphone and charging port (micro-usb). We found the holster that came along with both quite handy and stylish, even at the advice of my wife that the 80′s had past. The back of the devices are home to the cameras and OtterBox does a great job profiling these and making them stand out instead of just making them blend into the case backing. We found that we could slide our phones on the counter without fear of those nasty back scratches. This as a developer is key, having to pick up the device to do testing and then set it down to code, you don’t want to be swaddling your device like an infant and the OtterBox insures that it is not.

All in all the OtterBox defender series stands the test of our development needs and looks good doing it. We want to take a moment to commend OtterBox for there superior protection they provide us in the form of cases. These cases will help our Z10 and our One go a long way while looking good doing it. Check out the gallery below and let us know what the verdict is in the comments below. Until the next reviews and updates, Happy Hacking!

The HTC One. From what we can tell, the best smartphone [...]

The HTC One. From what we can tell, the best smartphone in the marketplace today, blowing even the Samsung Galaxy S4 out of the water according to some of the news sites we frequest. This is the development device that has us telling other developers this is a must have development device. We know that we have metal instead of plastic protecting the insides of our device but what is protecting the metal?! Well as you all know we really only have one tried and true source to turn to and that is OtterBox. We check out the OtterBox Commuter series case designed for the HTC One below so check it out.

when looking at the case inside of the packaging it is an impressive site. We dont like the standard black and because our device was silver, we decided that the glacier color combination of grey and white would fit right in and make the device pop. We weren’t disappointed when we managed to get the device into the silicone casing which was a tight fit (a good thing meaning that it will not slip out accidentally) and the hard shell slipped right on over the covered charging port and the 3.5mm headphone jack. The fir of the entire case on the HTC One was in a word, Perfect!

After the case was on it was time to explore what was and was not available in the way of speakers, microphones, cameras and such. Turns out that this case is one of the best we have used coming from OtterBox. The power button is left untouched by silicone and is cutout to fit the finger pressing the power. This resonated with as an innovative idea and works better for us wanting to turn the device on and off. The 3.5mm jack on the top and the charging port on the bottom are covered by silicone plugs to make dust and debris unable to enter when they are closed.

The right side of the device has the volume rockers protected by silicone as well. As we move onto the back of the device we have the camera which has been set into the case so when setting the One down we don’t need to worry about scratches to the lens. We also enjoyed the hard shell case design as it is not the typical commuter case desin as the top is smaller than the length of the device and has some more angles to it as you will see in the gallery below. The back and bottom microphones are left exposed so we can let Google Now do its thing when we need it to

Returning the the front of the device we get the speakers (bottom and top) and light sensors framed by grey silione. The device is already something to be envied but the amount of comments that we receive asking who the case is by and what device it is protecting means that OtterBox is hitting all customer satisfaction milestones on stride. We thing that if you are a developer and need to protect your devices get a case. If you need to get a device that will last longer than one drop and withstand the test of time, get an OtterBox. Let us know what you think in the comments below. Until the next review, Happy Hacking!
